Where our data comes from
Our studies use data we gather ourselves:
- Live checks. For domain studies we look up each domain's registrar record (RDAP), its nameservers and DNS, and request its home page to see what it actually serves, all on a stated date.
- SEO tools. Authority Score, referring domains, search volume and keyword difficulty come from Semrush's U.S. database, on the date stated in each study.
- Our own sites. The live case study uses Google Search Console and Semrush data for sites we run.
How we analyze it
We use simple, transparent statistics: counts, medians and Spearman rank correlations, which suit SEO data's very uneven spread better than averages do. When a group is too small to say much, we say so.
What we publish
Aggregates only. We never name the domains, sites or people in a dataset. Every study links to a CSV of its aggregate tables so you can check our arithmetic.
Limits we always state
Our samples are real but not random. A study of one owner's old domains tells you about old, idle domains, not about the whole web. Each study has a "Method and limits" section, and we would rather under-claim than over-claim.
